Almaviva has obtained the ISO/IEC 42001:2023 certification for the provision of artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions that support business processes, aimed at optimizing the software life cycle.
The certification - already obtained last year by the subsidiary Almawave as a developer, producer, and provider - confirms the adoption of an artificial intelligence management system that complies with the highest international standards, such as the EU AI Act, applied to the development and delivery of solutions that integrate intelligent and agentic functionalities within the group’s digital platform.
ISO/IEC 42001 is the first certifiable international standard dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI management systems -AIMS) in order to promote their reliable, ethical, transparent, and secure use and development. The certification was granted to Almaviva by the independent body DNV.
“With this acknowledgment, Almaviva strengthens its position as a strategic partner for the digital transformation of public administrations and enterprises, ensuring the use of AI that focuses on value, safety, and long-term sustainability,” commented Valeria Sandei, Chief of Global AI for the Almaviva Group. “Obtaining the group’s second ISO/IEC 42001 certification, following Almawave’s certification last year as a producer, developer, and provider of AI, represents a further step forward in our AI-driven evolution.”
“Our approach ensures the introduction and use of AI and ML technologies according to a structured, governed, and controllable model, capable of ensuring the systematic management of risks related to AI systems, the traceability and transparency of automated decision-making processes, the monitoring of quality throughout the entire software life cycle, and the continuous improvement of performance and compliance,” stated Alessandro Mantelli, CTO of Almaviva.
For years, Almaviva has pursued a structured transformation, strengthening governance and the responsible use of artificial intelligence technologies. In this context, an AI committee, tasked with effectively overseeing and governing the adoption of new tools, supporting work activities, and mitigating internal risks, has been established. The committee works to ensure use that is secure, ethical, and compliant with industry best practices, through the definition and continuous updating of guidelines and behavioral principles, as well as the constant monitoring of technology through specific audits and the planning of initiatives aimed at promoting an informed and responsible use of AI.
At the same time, the company has launched the creation of a laboratory dedicated to developing and supervising skills in the Automation Platform Engineering field. This initiative aims to design and implement automation solutions that support application processes, development, and operations, encouraging the adoption of automation, orchestration, and intelligent automation technologies.
This further recognition complements the group’s broader compliance initiatives, which also include Almawave - a member company of the group dedicated to the development of AI technology and products - aligned with the highest certified standards, since July of last year.
