Introducing the winners of the “Smart Future” Hackathon

Twelve teams, consisting of students, graduates and doctorate candidates from the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science, fiercely contested the winners’ award in the “Smart Future” Hackathon organised by the University of Trento and AlmavivA during the ICT Days event which concluded a few days ago.

Talent, creativity, teamwork. These are the characteristics which ultimately made the difference in the team programming marathon which ran for 24 hours straight. Teams were asked to design technological solutions capable of significantly and tangibly improving everyday life. In town, at home and in the workplace.

We are pleased to announce the winning teams from the “Smart Future” Hackathon 2018:

  • Provolosi, which in just 24 hours developed a working prototype of a smart control panel, equipped with sensors and cameras and intended for use in public transport, with the aim of acquiring and analysing real-time data and images in order to monitor data relating to the surrounding area, from environmental quality to safety: atmospheric and noise pollution, traffic and roadworks analysis, car park status, registration plate checking, video surveillance, local public transportation, etc...
  • Segmentation Fault, which concentrated on the theme of organisational wellbeing - also a goal in increasingly Smart offices - where cameras and sensors analyse employee behaviour and feedback and activate ambient and workstation configurations designed to offer optimal comfort and efficiency in line with individuals’ requirements: brightness, temperature and workstation ergonomics can be adjusted locally and integrate easily with the processes aimed at improving energy efficiency.
  • BetterWithTommy, which offered ProxSpot, a system based on sensors located in various public areas to provide real-time information via app and book slots in the library, gym, car park, etc.
  • Povers, which devised a way of improving training in industrial settings using augmented reality and smart glasses (Google glass, Microsoft hololens…).
  • The judging panel, consisting of experts from AlmavivA, EMC-DELL and the University of Trento, made their decision by creating an overall score based on a series of factors: the innovative nature of the project, legitimacy in terms of creating and selling the product, replicability in an enterprise context, prototype development; team organisation during the hackathon; and the quality of the final presentation.

For anyone who wants to take part next time: see you at ICT Days 2019!
