World Environment Day: Almaviva’s Commitment

05-06-2024

Today marks the 52nd World Environment Day, an opportunity to encourage awareness and action on the part of everyone in an effort to preserve and restore our planet's natural balance.

Since 2008, Almaviva has been running the Almaviva Green Project to promote eco-friendly behaviors and the efficient use of IT with the goal of reducing the environmental and energy impact of business activities. Its efforts to protect the environment are implemented through a special environmental management system, designed to minimize the company's impact on the planet, the climate, and natural resources. The group monitors its emissions and energy consumption, promoting the use of energy from renewable sources and seeking to reduce waste and externalities that are harmful to the environment, from a perspective of circular economy, ensuring efficiency and sustainability.

The group confirmed its commitment today, during the launch event of “Mediterraneo da remare”, a traveling information and awareness campaign promoted by the UniVerde Foundation and of which Almaviva is a campaign partner.

"Today, taking action against water pollution is important and a priority. As the Almaviva Group, we’re committed to environmental protection on multiple fronts and are proud to support the Mediterranean da Remare initiative as well. Bodies of water are natural environments that must be preserved and experienced. They are also the important sites of exciting athletic activities. We’re using digital solutions to tackle this challenge, offering new and essential tools, advanced technologies, artificial intelligence, and satellite systems to protect and monitor marine and water resources," said Alberto Tripi, President of Almaviva, speaking at the event. "It’s important to get young people and athletes actively involved in this initiative. Through their participation we can raise awareness and promote good ecological practices."

“At Almaviva we’ve developed advanced environmental and engineering capabilities,” said Massimiliano Evangelista, Head of Strategic Market Environment & Territory. “Thanks to cutting-edge technologies, such as big data platforms, IoT and field sensors, we’re able to implement integrated solutions that make it possible to continuously monitor this indispensable resource. Our group has completed several successful cases, such as the water quality monitoring project in the Gallipoli district for Acquedotto Pugliese, which ensures that purified water is fed back into the sea. This is a concrete example of how our technologies can help protect the environment.”
