Almaviva Participates in Pope Francis’ Global Alliance for Children’s Health

24-09-2024

Introducing Pope Francis’ Global Alliance for Children’s Health, a network that aims to provide healthcare and humanitarian aid to one million children over the next three years. Almaviva is proud to be part of the initiative.

“'Children are the seeds of our future. With children we can build a new world.” The mission of the Pope's Global Alliance for Children’s Health, a network that connects hospitals from around the world, was, upon suggestion of Mariella Enoc, entrusted by Pope Francis to the American nonprofit organization “'Patrons of the World's Children Hospital”' last May.

The Alliance focuses on two main objectives:

  • create a global humanitarian community coordinated by the World Children's Day organizing committee;
  • develop a network dedicated to children in need of care around the world, while also providing specialized support to healthcare workers on the ground, because, as the Pope emphasized, “There may be incurable diseases, but there are no incurable children.”

The system that has been developed is based on a Hub-and-Spoke model. The point of contact is a ''multilingual digital platform'' created by Almaviva and Salesforce, which connects to a telehealth system provided by Teladoc Health.

The Hubs, top tier hospitals from around the world which have joined the initiative, offer medical expertise and treatment to the Spokes, healthcare facilities located in areas where the demand for healthcare services is not fully met. The first of the Hubs will be the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital.

The project was presented to Pope Francis, during an audience with the board of the Patrons of the World's Children Hospital and representatives from all the organizations inf the Alliance: the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital, Almaviva, Teladoc Health, Cuamm, PIME, and Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington. Antonio Amati, DG of the IT division, and Michele Svidercoschi, Director of Communications, Marketing, and Institutional Relations, were present on behalf of Almaviva.
