The final event of “AI for Inclusion” took place yesterday at the Politecnico di Milano. This call to action, promoted by Microsoft Italy in collaboration with institutions, companies, startups, associations, and the academic world, was dedicated to developing projects that promote diversity and support the inclusion of people with disabilities.
INAIL was one of the winners in the Transversal Disabilities category with the Video Platform project, developed synergistically by the Institute's Central Directorate for Digital Organization, Consultancy for Technological Innovation, and Central Directorate for Planning and Communication, in collaboration with Almaviva and Almawave.
Through the use of advanced artificial intelligence technologies and customized user interface solutions, the platform aims to overcome barriers and enable all people, including those with disabilities or neurodivergences, to take full advantage of the potential of digital media. Equipped with intuitive features that facilitate interaction for users with different needs, the platform promotes an innovative experience in the field of digital accessibility. In particular, it acts as a one-stop hub for video content, facilitating users' access to and discovery of diverse materials by: making it possible to automatically transcribe all of the hub’s videos, with accessible and searchable content; implementing integrated publication processes, through a publication management system on external platforms as well; and facilitating advanced searches using natural language to easily find the desired content.
The next step in INAIL’s initiative is to develop a digital human capable of transcribing video content in Italian sign language in real-time with the video stream.
Thanks to the contribution of the Almaviva and Almawave team, INAIL is an example of how technological innovation can be used to make a positive social impact, improving quality of life and promoting inclusion through improved access to culture and information.
