Virtual reality, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence to enhance medical treatment and innovate rehabilitation techniques. A software that allows healthcare professionals to monitor patients’ progress, both in hospital facilities and at home, taking advantage of cutting-edge technologies. This development is the result of the partnership between Almaviva, an Italian digital innovation group, and the Villa Beretta Rehabilitative Medicine Center in Costa Masnaga, a branch of the Valduce Hospital in Como. The goal of the collaboration is to implement and manage an innovative telerehabilitation solution.
The solution provides clinicians and the Villa Beretta Rehabilitation Research Innovation Institute, a research institute that works in close synergy with the rehabilitation center, with digital services and tools that enhance, make available, and manage advanced rehabilitation techniques. This will allow the hospital to ensure continuity of treatment in a sustainable manner, both economically and organizationally, while increasing the volume of treatment activities. It will also make it possible to reduce hospitalization times and increase both motor and cognitive functional recovery. The project includes a trial that will focus on individuals, particularly young individuals, who have experienced a stroke.
“We’re thrilled to collaborate with a prestigious facility like Villa Beretta and to contribute to improving patients’ quality of life through digital innovation”, says Giovanni Di Nardo, Head of Market Application Domain Digital Healthcare at Almaviva. "The application suite leverages cutting-edge technologies, such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence, with the objective of enhancing medical treatment and innovating rehabilitation techniques. This solution improves patient-doctor communication systems and tools and ensures a more stimulating and less stressful recovery process. In this way, we’re able to combine Villa Beretta’s outstanding clinical care with our technological expertise, offering a state-of-the-art service that represents a significant step forward in the technological evolution and sustainability of our healthcare system”.
“This important collaboration with Almaviva is the culmination of 15 years of clinical research in the field of telerehabilitation”, states Franco Molteni, Clinical Director of the Villa Beretta Rehabilitation Center and Scientific Director of Villa Beretta Rehabilitation Research Innovation Institute. “New technologies allow for more effective rehabilitative treatments, also because they can be carried out at home for extended periods of time. Immersive reality and personalized treatment are the foundation for restoring human functioning, thus enhancing patients’ quality of life”.
