“AI and creativity”: Almawave CEO Valeria Sandei at the last stop of “Disclaimer - Final warnings before the revolution”

Last stop of “Disclaimer - Final Warnings Before the Revolution”, an initiative dedicated to AI and creativity, promoted by Corriere della Sera and curated and hosted by Riccardo Luna, was held at the University of Milan, providing an opportunity to talk about inspiration, language, and imagination in the era of intelligent machines.

“AI is a product of creativity and ingenuity, and a source of continuous innovation. We need to safeguard and preserve know-how in our country, championing our long-standing talent for creating and innovating,” emphasized Valeria Sandei, CEO of Almawave, during the discussion.

“We applied ingenuity to our Velvet models, creating algorithms that give European languages a different weight as compared to the Anglo-centric approach of big tech models.”

What lies ahead for 2026 and where do we stand with regard to regulations?
“Regulations - often quite stringent - exist in many fields and are created for our protection. What’s essential is to take them into account from the outset, so that projects are developed within the regulatory framework rather than adapted to it afterward. That’s exactly what we did when designing our AI models.

With regard to 2026, I believe two aspects will emerge:

  • the first is that all companies, whether public or private, will have to confront AI head-on, assessing its value and benefits;
  • the second is that we’ll increasingly understand how essential creativity and expertise are to our economy. We can’t limit ourselves to being mere distributors, users, or implementers of that which others create. We must preserve and invest in these skills, within both Italian and European companies and universities. In this way we can continue to be authors, creators, and inventors, leveraging the ingenuity that has always defined our country," concluded Sandei.
