World Rivers Day: Participate in the Piùblu Events This Weekend, in Collaboration with Almaviva

20-09-2024

Piùblu’s three-day initiative in collaboration with Almaviva has kicked off, focused on protecting marine, lake, and river ecosystems from plastic and microplastic pollution, promoting sustainable lifestyles, and educating and raising awareness among the younger generation in particular. “Our participation in WE CAN BLU IT! is motivated by the Almaviva Group’s commitment to environmental issues, especially those related to fighting pollution and conserving water resources.

The events organized with Piùblu are particularly close to our hearts as they concern the health of our Tiber river,” said Stefano Capelli, Head of Sustainability and coordinator of Almaviva’s ESG committee, during this morning’s Round Table entitled “The Power of Shared Commitment for a Sustainable Future”.

If you’re in Rome, come join us:

  • Saturday, September 21st, for the edutainment activities for children that will be held at and in collaboration with EXPLORA, the Children's Museum of Rome, located at Via Flaminia 82.
  • Sunday, September 22nd, for the large-scale collective plastic cleanup of rivers, lakes, and seas that will take place with Piùblu volunteers in many Italian cities, with the special participation of athletes and members of various canoeing and rowing clubs. For participants in Rome, the appointment is at 9:30am at the Circolo Canottieri Ondina.

The first edition of the “Almaviva BLU RACE” in Rome has come to a close. This was the inaugural “Match Race” in which three generations of men and women rowed together in the same boats (8 shells) to send a powerful message of support for the environment.

“Sports and the environment are a winning alliance,” commented Alberto Tripi, President of Almaviva. “Rowing is an exciting and sustainable sport that’s practiced in nature, allowing participants to experience it in a unique way. Regularly spending time on rivers, such as the Tiber, causes every rower, including myself, to be deeply aware of the need to protect our waters. Taking action against river and sea pollution is crucial and must become a priority.”
