​The episode of the RAI 3 program Report, featuring an investigation of digital health by Michele Buono, cites the artificial intelligence platform created by AlmavivA for the Vimercate Hospital as an example of efficiency. At the fully digitized hospital in Vimercate, information flows in every direction in real time. In this structure, the health management and IT departments are in close collaboration.

After all of the processes were digitalized, it became possible to introduce AI, which is used to assist nurses and doctors who can now fully focus on patient care. Artificial intelligence quickly analyzes X-ray images, reporting anomalies and severity; monitors treatments and indicates risky interactions between drugs; and performs predictive analysis regarding when a patient enters dialysis. A true digital hub.

“Doctors and nurses must be part of the digital transformation from the very beginning,” says Giovanni Delgrossi, former Director of Information Systems at the Vimercate hospital.

The technology is there. If expanded and made nationally interoperable “we could have, in addition to the digital representation of the patient’s clinical history, the digital representation of an entire health system as well,” says Alessandro Mantelli, AlmavivA’s CTO of Innovative Solutions.
