The temporary joint venture of Almaviva and Fabrick has been selected as the top-ranked bidder by the European Central Bank (ECB) for the development of a mobile app that will allow European citizens to use the digital euro.

"An extremely important systemic project. The digital euro will not replace existing payment systems, but will complement them, offering a highly stable currency with security levels guaranteed by the ECB,” said Previtera.

“First we’ll work on an experimental pilot version. The official launch is expected to take place in 2029/2030. The project is based on the principle of European digital sovereignty, as it is being developed by European operators who will also manage the databases.
It is clearly a long-term means of payment, one that the younger generation, above all, will benefit from," concluded Previtera.
