“Digital technologies and generative AI are enabling factors in the profound transformation that the transport and logistics sector is undergoing,” said Smeraldo Fiorentini, Deputy CEO of Almaviva, speaking in Naples at the event promoted by Fondazione Merita regarding the Agenda Sud 2030. Southern Italy after the NRRP, in the panel discussion entitled “Infrastructure, Transport, and Logistics for an Integrated South”.
“Today, the various modes of transport that exist show different levels of innovation: the railway sector is more advanced, while road transport lags behind in terms of digitalization.”
“While Italy, with its more than 800,000 km of roads, ranks in the top 20 worldwide in terms of network length, it nevertheless continues to suffer from long-standing shortcomings that affect safety, with alarming social costs, connection to the main logistic and manufacturing hubs, and an infrastructural imbalance between the North, Center, and South of the country. Accessibility is an essential condition for territorial development, considering that the areas served by high-speed rail have recorded an economic growth higher than the rest of the country, and that over 60% of industrial activities are located within 10 km of a motorway junction.”
“These are the reasons why the Almaviva Group, which has been operating in the railway sector for 30 years, has been investing for some time in advanced digitalization systems, capable of contributing to the modernization of road infrastructures, starting with safety, sustainability and efficiency,” concluded Fiorentini.
