Registration is now open for the Tiber Skiff, the first international rowing regatta on the Tiber. The event will be the sporting highlight of “We Can Blu it! 2026”, a festival organized by the “piùblu” association and dedicated to the relationship between sport, the environment, and health. From September 25th to 27th, the Tiber will become a space dedicated to sport, environmental education, and civic engagement.

Now in its third edition, “We Can Blu It!” continues to grow and, in collaboration with the Italian Rowing Federation, AS Luiss, and Almaviva (a leading Italian digital innovation group and the event’s main partner), has chosen the river that gave birth to Rome as its central focus. The festival is held under the patronage of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, the Lazio Region, the Municipality of Rome, the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Waste Management, CONI, the Italian Canoe and Kayak Federation, the WWF, and the Marevivo Foundation. Adnkronos will serve as the event’s media partner. The technical sponsors collaborating on the initiative include Filippi Boats, a world leader in the design and construction of Olympic rowing boats, Six Senses Roma, Dott, a European urban micromobility company, and Segafredo.

The “Tiber Skiff” is the major new sporting event of the 2026 edition. Inspired by the famous “Silver Skiff” in Turin, athletes from all over the world will arrive in the capital for the international regatta, transforming the Tiber into a true world-class rowing arena on September 26th.

For three days, the stretch of river between Ponte Milvio and Ponte Sant'Angelo will be transformed into a vast open-air stage where sport, environmental sustainability, science communication, and civic engagement will come together through a program of events, competitions, workshops, and hands-on activities. The goal is to restore the Tiber to the heart of city life, encouraging residents, students, athletes, visitors, institutions, and businesses to experience the river as a shared public resource, an environmental asset, a haven of biodiversity, and a meeting place for diverse communities.

The Almaviva Blu Race, scheduled for September 27th, will be another event in “We Can Blu It! 2026”, a festival that features a rich program of activities, from canoeing and kayaking competitions, with trials open to the public, to inclusive initiatives organized in collaboration with the Special Olympics movement.

Promoted by piùblu, an association committed to protecting rivers and aquatic ecosystems, "We Can Blu IT!" includes a comprehensive program of environmental initiatives involving residents, schools, universities, and local associations. The program includes community cleanups along the Tiber, activities to restore and enhance riverside access, environmental monitoring, and awareness-raising events dedicated to water quality and the impact of microplastics, organized in partnership with ISDE, Doctors for the Environment.

The riverbanks will also host an experiential village open to the public, with workshops, educational activities, meetings with researchers and educators, a space dedicated to schools and universities, sports areas, and a main stage hosting talks, award ceremonies, performances, and opportunities for discussion on the future of rivers and cities. Participating organizations include WWF, Marevivo, Greenpeace, Retake Roma, FAI, Legambiente, Lipu, Plastic Free, Evera Clean Up and Ostia Clean Up, and Tevere Day.

One of the festival’s highlights will be “bluetalk”, a forum dedicated to the relationship between the environment, health, and urban regeneration, bringing together representatives from institutions, academia, and the scientific research community will participate.
