Diagnostic imaging service

USE CASE

Regional cloud platform for centralizing and sharing diagnostic images in a regional healthcare system

PROJECT

The project involves creating a regional cloud platform for centrally managing health diagnostic images through a multi-tenant Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA): a single interoperable system that allows sharing DICOM images among all healthcare organizations in the region and their integration into the Electronic Health Record (EHR 2.0), benefiting citizens, doctors, and healthcare workers.

SCOPE

The project aims to digitize and streamline the management of diagnostic images across an entire regional healthcare system through an innovative platform that overcomes the fragmentation of local PACS spread across about 50 healthcare entities.

The platform, developed for a regional in-house company operating in digital innovation for public healthcare, allows citizens for the first time to access their own diagnostic images through the Electronic Health Record Portal and lets doctors and healthcare professionals consult diagnostic studies from any facility in the regional network, improving continuity of care and clinical collaboration.

BENEFITS

The solution designed and managed by Almaviva is based on a cloud-native architecture on AWS, segmented into dedicated VPCs for different functions, with services managed 24/7 as managed services. It follows the best configuration practices of the Well Architected Framework (WAF) and streamlines the operational processes for managing Managed Services with the support of the Cloud expert team.

Some key points of the regional PACS/VNA platform include:

Healthcare interoperability

End-to-end security

Scalability and high availability
