From the field to the shelf, the food supply chain is increasingly smarter. From 10 a.m. To 1 pm. on April 23rd, the future of the department will be discussed in the conference which presents the Milan Polytechnic School of Management’s Smart AgriFood Observatory 2019 Research results, done in collaboration with AlmavivA.

The event, this time available to the general public free of charge via streaming, will focus on the growth of Blockchain, a technology at the base of many innovative solutions in the food supply chain. It will also take an in-depth look at the role of Public Administrations and digital technologies in our current particular emergency condition.

Participating in the event for AlmavivA will be Fulvio Conti, Agriculture and Environment Practice Manager.

“Blockchain is by now discussed in various environments”, Conti observes, “but only a very low percentage actually makes it into practice - about %. One of the reasons is the the supply chains represented contain only data and not certain and integrated information with the various ministries, not only Agriculture, but also Health and Environment.” At the base of AlmavivA’s concrete experiences is a logic from an ecosystem point of view, where various different players and ecosystems are integrated: agricultural operations that want to promote their product, public administrations involved in the process in various roles and business partners to take advantage of any and all opportunities on the global markets.”

“All of these players”, he continues, “may have implemented their own blockchain, but only with completely open solutions, such as the AlmavivA solution, can different data sources be integrated to channel certified information, effectively sustaining the ‘Made in Italy’ supply chain on a country system level. The digital innovation we propose guarantees the identity and precise history of each individual product unit in an ecosystem that goes far beyond the national borders. Just recently, we have been supporting the Consorzio Arance Rosse di Sicilia Igp (PGI Sicilian Blood Oranges Consortium) to promote the product on the Chinese market. The next step? Connecting customs as a new player in the Blockchain for the purpose of simplifying managing customs procedures and reinforcing anti-fraud measures.”

“In the current emergency phase, the role of Public Administration has proven to be crucial”, Conti concludes. “As a technological partner of the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies and AGEA (Agenzia per le Erogazioni in Agricoltura), AlmavivA works consistently alongside the administration in its transition toward digital. On this path, which has undergone a clear acceleration in recent weeks, we have placed solutions in the field that integrate diversified technologies – I’ll talk about them during the conference – because we are convinced that the four industrial revolution is not bound to a single technology, but to a set of enabling technologies that integrate systemically, allowing a simplification of the administrative processes for the agencies and new productive paradigms for companies.”
