“AI and Cyber Threat Intelligence to Protect Healthcare Data”: CISO Roger Cataldi on Cybersecurity Italy

“According to the latest OECD report, ‘Health at a Glance: Europe 2020’, the per capita healthcare expenditure in Italy amounts to €2,473, for a total of over €146 billion per year, in a complex, heterogeneous, fragmented, and relatively immature sector in terms of IT and IoT systems.

This condition represents a tempting target for organized crime and, in particular, for criminals that engage in Cybercrime-as-a-Service, or rather professionals and criminal organizations that have developed ready-to-use tools and services that can be purchased to carry out complex attacks, even without the necessary technical expertise.”

"Contrary to other, more digitally oriented organizations, healthcare facilities have often devoted fewer resources to data security and to training personnel in cybersecurity. This delay in addressing cyber threats has made them more vulnerable to attacks.

Addressing these challenges requires a joint effort on the part of healthcare facilities, medical personnel, cybersecurity experts, and institutions,” says Roger Cataldi, CISO and Head of Cyber Security for Almaviva.

“Artificial intelligence can be used to detect and prevent cyber attacks, identify anomalous behavior in computer systems, improve the security of networks and devices, and analyze large amounts of data in order to identify potential vulnerabilities.

It’s fundamental that an improvement in cyber defenses be combined with Cyber Threat Intelligence services, focusing specifically on the healthcare sector.

Gathering threat intelligence can play a fundamental role in prevention by improving an organization’s risk exposure, particularly in the case of healthcare institutions.
