AlmavivA heads up Field Testing in Italy for the FORENSOR European research project

On 19th and 20th February the Italian Field Tests for the FORENSOR European project were conducted. The security call of the Horizon 2020 programme has been managed and implemented by AlmavivA in partnership with the command unit of the Municipal Police force for the city of Chiusi. This was the final phase of various test campaigns - conducted in specific conditions - aimed at validating the results of the project.

During the tests, a WSN of FORENSOR sensors was implemented, its main innovation being the new optical sensor. In its latest and final release, this ultra-low power, low-cost, Wi-Fi device has on-board intelligence of forensic relevance capable of autonomously detecting specific criminal events and generating alarms and footage to be sent to a gateway node, which communicates via the Internet with the control unit, to which it sends all the evidence collected.

AlmavivA made a significant contribution to the FORENSOR project. The company designed and created the central software system and the protocol for communicating with the gateways, which will allow exploitation of this new technology in order to define individual investigation activities, configure the remote sensor network, receive alarms and store the collected evidence (images and footage) to make it available to the police force.

During the Field Tests in Chiusi a rural road was monitored while the network of sensors was active, to detect the unauthorised passage of motor vehicles on a pedestrian and cycle path. This rural path, known as the “Strada Comunale Del Lago”, is part of a road stretching 62 km from Chiusi to Arezzo; over one hundred video footage clips have been collected so far from this location by project researchers during the analysis phase, to assess the performance of the new platform supporting the fight against crime.
