“Sports & Technology: Digital Solutions for Telerehabilitation”. This was the central theme of the panel discussion which took place during the Social Football Summit at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, moderated by Massimo Caputi and featuring the participation of Antonio Amati (General Manager of IT for Almaviva), Guidelli Paolo (Central Director of Digital Organization for Inail), Franco Molteni (Clinical Director of the Villa Beretta Rehabilitation Center and Scientific Director of the Villa Beretta Rehabilitation Research Institute), and Paralympic athlete Ambra Sabatini.
“In 2020, only 15% of facilities were experimenting with telerehabilitation systems. Now, in 2024, that figure has risen to 40%. At Almaviva, we invest in this sector because we believe it has enormous potential for growth. A 2023 survey showed that 70% of patients who participated in telerehabilitation programs reported significant improvements in managing their condition. Additionally, 65% expressed greater satisfaction compared to traditional treatments,” said Amati.
“The implementation of these programs significantly improves efficiency and reduces costs, while also making it possible to introduce more effective protocols in rehabilitation processes. Technology isn’t a substitute for the trust-based relationship between doctor and patient, but rises to the challenge of creating tailored processes designed for the individual, just like in traditional treatment plans.”
“All the initiatives we’ve carried out in the Digital Health sector have been possible thanks to collaborations with leading medical institutions, most notably the Villa Beretta Rehabilitative Medicine Center, with which we launched a pilot program that introduces digital solutions in rehabilitation process. Our valuable contribution to the advancement of rehabilitation techniques has been our investment in cutting-edge technologies, such as virtual reality, augmented reality, IoT, artificial intelligence, to name a few.”
“The use of telerehabilitation in sports has a strong symbolic value, with athletes’ performances setting a positive example for those undergoing similar rehabilitative journeys.
