The rating upgrade “from Standard&Poors is an important recognition and represents further support to our credibility. And being credible is a necessary element in order for a company to implement, as we’re doing and intend to continue doing, a growth strategy that may also involve M&A operations.” These were the words of Marco Tripi, CEO of Almaviva, in an interview by Andrea Biondi for Il Sole 24 Ore, commenting on S&P's decision to raise the rating again to BB, a level that puts the group - also upgraded by Fitch (BB) in October - at the top of the sector.

“This is our eighth consecutive year of growth in revenue and margins,” says Tripi, listing the recently closed budgetary data, which shows a consistent positive trend. Over the past three years, revenue has grown at an average annual rate of 10%. There have also been positive trends in hiring, with two thousand new-hires over the last two years, consisting “mainly of STEM graduates”.

Overseas revenue currently accounts for 30% of the total turnover. “Our goal is to increase this to 50%, not because the Italian share will decrease, but due to a more than proportional increase in activity abroad.”
