Rome, 18/11/2014 - "Breast Cancer Prevention Day" was held today at the Rome offices of the AlmavivA Group, thanks to the partnership with Susan G. Komen Italia, an affiliate of “Susan G. Komen”, the largest international institution involved for over 30 years in this field.

Thanks to the presence of the Komen Italia Mobile Unit, more than 100 breast check-ups, ultrasounds and mammograms will take place during the day at the offices of the AlmavivA Group, Italian leader in the Information & Communications Technology sector.

With this initiative, now in its fourth year – said CEO Marco Tripi – we hope to contribute to spreading and strengthening a preventative culture in our community, in line with the principles of corporate social responsibility which the AlmavivA Group has pursued for many years through targeted internal campaigns.

Over the last four years, the Komen Italia Mobile Unit, used for the various "Prevention Days" held at institutions, and public and private companies, has allowed over 2,000 women to benefit from a clinical and diagnostic prevention programme, directly in the workplace.

Komen has had a presence in Italy since 2000, organising fundraising initiatives and awareness campaigns for the fight against breast cancer and, over the years, has offered Italian women over 20,000 free breast check-ups, ultrasounds and mammograms, as well as awareness programmes involving 36,800 people, with 976 free events in 100 different Italian cities.

“Despite the progress that has been made, there is still a long way to go – said Professor Masetti, Director of the Breast Surgery Unit at Rome's Gemelli hospital and Chair of Susan G. Komen Italia – Perhaps not everyone knows that breast cancer is the most common malignant neoplasm among women of all ages, and the main cause of death in women in Italy over the age of 35.

Even though treatment for breast cancer is effective in a large number of cases (more than 70%), more than 12,000 women lose their battle in Italy every year. This is why prevention and information campaigns are so important.”

To raise public awareness of the importance of prevention, again this year Rome (followed by Bari and Bologna) will host the "Race for the Cure" (15-16-17 May 2015), an event organised by Komen in which the AlmavivA Group actively participates every year.
The 2014 edition in Rome stood out as the most well attended race worldwide for the third year running, with 59,095 participants.
