The three-day event dedicated to Smart Cities will open tomorrow in Bologna, to present innovative technologies for improving mobility, saving energy, encouraging greater participation and enhancing the quality of life in a Smarter City.
The organizers have announced that it's "Not just about sustainable development, smart traffic lights and cycle paths. The event also aims to promote a different kind of relationship between government and citizens. Over the next seven years, Italian cities will be receiving at least five billion euros, from the European Union, to finance innovation; such a large amount of money is undoubtedly a great opportunity, but it's also an enormous challenge, which requires structural changes to the way projects are designed, to the governance of innovation, to the tools for fostering partnerships between the public and private sectors and active citizenship.
We need a change of pace, but we need to do it together. Central government, Parliament, local governments, public administration, businesses, universities and research centers, social partners, the third sector and active citizens are all involved and all responsible. We have brought them all together in Bologna to discuss this and design the new world.”

SEM – Smart Energy Management, the energy control and monitoring system designed by AlmavivA, will take part in the Microsoft CityNext event in Bologna.

The aim of Microsoft CityNext is to support local communities and businesses, thanks to technology innovation and consistently with the commitment to modernization shared by local governments the world over, in order to meet the requirements of citizens, despite the constraints introduced by the austerity measures. This is why Microsoft is collaborating with an ecosystem of over 430,000 partners, worldwide, including AlmavivA, to focus on eight key functional areas for cities: energy and the environment; buildings, infrastructure; transportation; security and law enforcement; tourism, leisure and culture; education; healthcare and social services and government services. By capitalizing on the local experience of the Partner network, and the relations in place with the principal cities worldwide, Microsoft is working with cities of all sizes, at all levels, to provide end-to-end devices and solutions for meeting the needs of final users, while at the same time satisfying the demand for innovation for developing city processes.

The Microsoft CityNext event will be officially launched on Thursday, 17th, at 1 pm. Subsequently, the partners collaborating in the event will attend a Microsoft Case Study project relating to “smartcity-oriented” implementations developed for its clients, in the case of AlmavivA: ABI Lab, ENEA, H3G, Energy Team.
