How many tweets were going out on the subject of the papal candidates during the vacancy of the Holy See? Almawave has looked for some answers.

Almawave has surveyed 7,601,814 tweets in Italian, Spanish, English and Portuguese sent from 27 February to 12 March 2013.

It has emerged from the survey that the three most tweeted about candidates, in the four survey languages, were Cardinals Timothy Micheal Dolan from the US, the Italian Angelo Scola and the Brazilian Odilo Pedro Sherer.
The most popular candidates in the social media world, in term of the number of "likes" on Facebook and of followers on Twitter, were Tagle, Dolan and Ravasi.
The papal candidates who tweeted the most times were Sherer, Ravasi and 0'Malley. The language most tweeted in was English, accounting for 63.7% of all tweets.

POPULARITY RATINGS OF PAPAL CANDIDATES ON TWITTER AND FACEBOOK
The most popular papal candidates in the social media world are Cardinals Tagle, Dolan and Ravasi. The first in particular, in terms of number of "Likes" on Facebook, and the others of number of followers on Twitter. The fourth, fifth and sixth positions are occupied by Cardinals Sherer, O'Malley and Ortega, with over 10,000 "likes" and followers, then all the others.

THE MOST TWEETING PAPAL CANDIDATES
The most tweeting papal candidates are Cardinals Sherer, Ravasi and 0'Malley, followed by Bergoglio and Dolan, with over 200 tweets. Therefore, the most popular on the social media are also those who tweet the most, except for Cardinal Tagle, who ranks first in number of "Likes" on Facebook, but has very few followers on Twitter.

THE MOST TWEETED LANGUAGES
English is the most tweeted language, with 63.7% of tweets, followed by Spanish, with 30.3% of tweets.
The multilingual survey covers a significant number of tweets worldwide because it takes into account the tweets from the geographical areas where Twitter is most widespread, as well as the countries with the largest Catholic communities. The decision not to include in the survey the tweets from Indonesia and Malaysia, which rank 3rd and 6th, respectively, among the top 10 countries, worldwide, with the highest number of Twitter users, was due to the small numbers of Catholics, compared to Europe and the Americas.

Among the 7,601,814 tweets examined in the survey, the most tweeted about papal candidates are Cardinal Timothy Michael Dolan (USA), followed by Angelo Scola (Italy) and Odilo Pedro Sherer (Brazil).
