Supply chain 4.0 - Blockchain as a guarantee of agri-food production: AlmavivA attends "Vinitaly 2018"

The 52nd edition of Vinitaly, the international wine and spirits fair first established in 1967, will be held in Verona from 15th to 18th April, with over 4200 exhibitors from Italy and overseas due to take part.

The Italian Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies (MIPAAF), the Agency for Agricultural Subsidies (AGEA), the National Information System for the development of Agriculture (SIN) and technological partner AlmavivA came together to create a platform for Traceability in the Winemaking Industry 4.0, providing a guarantee of quality and safety for industry players and consumers alike while safeguarding Italian-made products.

Blockchain technology (Ethereum) was used to create an experimental project based on the data provided by the National Agricultural Information System (SIAN), protecting the Italian origin of products and offering free and distributed access to information.

Every supply chain participant subscribing to Blockchain submits the data for its own operations (Smart Contract) and certifies the data in a secure, distributed and unchangeable manner.

The authenticity of the bottle is guaranteed thanks to an NFC TAG on the product itself, which can be read using the eNology APP developed by AlmavivA

The information available on the public Blockchain means that, by reading the tag using a smartphone with NFC reader, the authenticity of the product can be verified and any attempts at counterfeiting revealed, with a reconstruction of all the various stages along its technological-administrative journey.
