Italy's leading ICT company takes part in the intermodality project and is part of the strategic planning and management Committee of the newly formed association sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research

AlmavivA participates in "Cluster Trasporti Italia 2020", the newly formed association of major players in industry and science sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Education Universities and Research (MUIR). The alliance, signed in Rome on 10 April, sees big public and private players lined up side by side: sixty organisations including businesses, research institutions and government agencies.

AlmavivA will be engaged on several fronts: in addition to participating in one of the 4 Cluster projects – the one focusing on intermodality – the leading Italian company in Information Technology will be part of the strategic planning and management Committee of the Cluster itself. The Cluster's goal is an important one – to bring together the country's major companies in order to guide research policy for transport in the coming years. In the framework of the Europe 2020 strategy for energy and climate change, Cluster Trasporti Italia 2020 is focused on the in-depth study of environmental, economic and social sustainability. The issues under examination include decarbonisation and the use of new materials, connectivity for the improvement of safety, the development of intermodality for freight transport and efficiency of interchanges, as well as the intelligent management of product life cycles, through advanced processes for the reduction of "life cycle costs" of collective transport systems.

"Technology clusters" – this seminar deals with Transport and is the first of eight sponsored by MUIR to support the creation and development of organised public-private partnerships in areas that are strategic for the country. Synergies between industry, research institutions and the public administration provide added value to hone competitiveness in transport, a highly strategic sector for the country. "The aim", explains Cluster Chairman Nevio di Giusto, "is to define a national technology scenario, in line with the EU Horizon 2020 Programming framework, that will foster the promotion of excellence, by facilitating the processes of aggregation and structural development of the economic system, at regional and national level".

"The participation of AlmavivA in the Cluster and in the ITS ITALY2020, dedicated to intermodal freight transport", explains Alessandra Raffone, Head of AlmavivA Innovation Projects and member of the Cluster's strategic planning and management Committee, "is strategic in that on the one hand it will offer an opportunity to participate in an industrial research project focused on one of the core themes of our business. Our outstanding partners include top Italian universities and highly specialized SMEs. On the other hand, it will allow them to be part of a network that will enhance the possibilities for participating in tenders for the EU Horizon 2020 Programming framework, helping to guarantee our country a role of excellence based on skills often at the forefront, both in terms of research and technology".
