AlmavivA at the Polo Meccatronica (Mechatronics Centre): developing digital solutions for Industry 4.0

The new Rovereto premises redoubles the Trentino presence of the Italian Information Technology group. Employee numbers increase from 15 to 30

AlmavivA has chosen the Polo Meccatronica, the hi-tech Trentino Sviluppo incubator, as the site for a new premises dedicated to boosting research and development for new technologies linked to mechatronics, industry 4.0, energy management, mobile technology and mobility. Operative from July, the establishment will strengthen the company’s relationship with the Trento region through its search for qualified personnel and the development of partnerships and collaborations with companies already established in the area. Polo Meccatronica is therefore gaining a prominent information technology company which slots perfectly into the chain, creating digital platforms dedicated to industry 4.0 both in terms of production (i.e. the intelligent interface between devices and machinery) and energy management.

“The more Polo Meccatronica grows in various areas,” observes Sergio Anzelini, Executive Director of Trentino Sviluppo, “from company spaces to research and prototyping laboratories, in addition to increasingly skilled schooling, the more significant this place will become for large companies which will find it a particularly dynamic and stimulating environment. This is demonstrated by the premises itself, which has allowed us to accommodate an industrial group with considerable skills in the I.T. for mechatronics sector, thereby strengthening the chain of skills and services on offer.”

“The hi-tech Trentino Sviluppo Centre has a very interesting ecosystem in which the public body, research centres, small and medium-sized businesses and large companies form a particularly valuable union,” says Antonio Amati, General Manager of AlmavivA’s I.T. Division. “It is a fertile environment in which to create technological innovation and operate in a highly symbiotic context, working on regional research projects while gathering local experiences for projection on a national scale.

The new Rovereto site will support the historic Trento site and will double AlmavivA’s presence in the area, increasing the number of professionals employed from 15 to around 30. Some of the most important projects implemented in the local area include the development and management of the local public transport I.T. system (MITT) and the Trentino Accessibile application, developed using the Context Aware research project as a starting point. AlmavivA is also involved with various ongoing research and development projects in the smart city, transport, cloud security and industry 4.0 sectors, financed through ministerial and European tenders (MIUR and MISE; Horizon 2020 respectively).

With reference to the field of mechatronics, the Group is developing the Giotto project, which is intended to expand and consolidate the company platform dedicated to the management and intelligent connection of various devices in an industrial context, the so-called “smart factories”, also thanks to the development - over many years - of partnerships with major national and international players such as Oracle, Microsoft, Amazon, Cisco, IBM and Google.
