Rome, 21 September 2015 – AlmavivA has won the contract for developing and managing a Schengen visa issuing system, conducted by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The system will serve 163 Italian Embassies and Consular Offices worldwide. T

he contract includes software development and maintenance services, application/system management, 24/7 specialist support and help desk, based on the specifications of the VIS Visa Information System. The VIS system exchanges data between the participating countries, in relation to visas for entering the Schengen Space, and streamlines visa application and border control procedures, while at the same time improving security. In 2014,

Italy issued about 2.3 million visas through the system. The next step in the system’s evolution will be the increased use of biometric data.

“Thanks to the contract for issuing Schengen visas, AlmavivA can strengthen its partnership with the Ministry, also including the management of the Integrated Accounts and Budget System, which has been running for a year now – says Antonio Amati, General Manager of IT Division at AlmavivA – thus consolidating our role as technology partner to the Foreign Ministry, in an increasingly strategic sector at this moment in time, with the Expo under way and the imminent Jubilee”.

AlmavivA won the contract for a base value of 4.6 million euros, surpassing no less than 11 competitors. The contract has a term of 36 months and can be extended for a further 3 years.
