Asstel has promoted and posted on its website a Code of Conduct for self-regulating telephone marketing and sales operations, providing guidelines to businesses and improved guarantees to consumers.
 
Asstel, an organization of which Marco Tripi is the Deputy Chairman, is a member of the Innovatory & Technological Services branch of the Italian Employers’ Association, and represents fixed/mobile telephone providers and the larger companies providing telecommunications and utilities services.
 
The purpose of the Code is to provide both businesses and consumers with a clear set of rules and defined and transparent calling times and frequency of calls, with respect to telephone marketing and sales, in connection with the new regulatory framework that has already been introduced in most European countries.
 
Effective from 1 February 2011, in fact, the previous opt-in principle, according to which members of the public were required to specifically consent to receiving sales and marketing calls, was replaced by the opposite opt-out principle, according to which all persons present in public directories can be called, unless they register with the official opt-out register.
 
The “do not call” register, which is compiled and maintained by the Ugo Bordoni Foundation on behalf of the Department of Communications of the Ministry for Economic Development, is both a consumer protection service and a tool for enhancing the transparency and development of the telemarketing market.
 
The Asstel “Code of Conductis binding on the outsourcers of the signatory companies, i.e. on the call center businesses, and can be signed by non-member companies as well. Compliance with and the updating of the Code are ensured by a Board of Guarantors, whose members are appointed by the signatory companies.
 
AlmavivA Contact has signed the Code and has a representative on the Board of Guarantors.
