A total of 154,069 interactions were generated in Twitter during the third evening of the Sanremo Song Contest, with a further slight drop compared to the 186,000 tweets during the previous evening.
Obviously, the boom of social media conversations recorded on the first evening of the show remains unequalled, although the total tweets generated since the start of the show now approaches the 750,000 mark.

During the third evening the hourly peaks were reached, once again, immediately after the start of the program, at around 9 pm, in connection with the tribute to Claudio Abbado, but also at about 10.30 pm (flash mob by Shai Fishman) and just before midnight, in connection with the performances by Renzo Arbore and the contestants Noemi and Arisa.
Following is an overview of the results of the real-time monitoring by Almawave in Twitter, as part of its "Social Analysis Sanremo 2014" survey:

Heavyweights

  • all the heavyweight singers performed during the evening and the Twitter users’ response was very clear:Noemi confirmed and, indeed, further strengthened her position as the most popular contestant (in terms of online buzz), totaling 7,179 tweets, followed by Francesco Renga (5,057 tweets) and Arisa (4,172 tweet), the latter having reached the number one position in the first night of the show
  • the remaining 11 contestants, in decreasing order, are Giusy Ferreri, Raphael Gualazzi, Francesco Sarcina, Renzo Rubino, Perturbazione, Ron,Giuliano Palma, Riccardo Sinigallia, Frankie Hi-NRG, AntonellaRuggiero and, last but not least, Cristiano De André
  • instead, in terms of sentiment, Giuliano Palma ranks first, with 29.1% of positive tweets, before Antonella Ruggiero (29%), Raphael Gualazzi(28.4%) and Renzo Rubino (28.3%). But Antonella Ruggiero also featured the record number of negative tweets (36.8%), neck and neck with Cristiano de Andrè (36.7%) and followed closely behind by Giusy Ferreri (34.7%)
  • regarding the number of followers, Giusy Ferreri is still first, with 314,000 followers, followed by Arisa
  • the sudden boost in the number of followers of the Perturbazione band – plus 42,000 in the space of just one morning – is shrouded in mystery. Until just a few hours before (at 6.40 am) their twitter account featured about 7,600 followers, which then started to grow from 7 am a rate of 2,000 every five seconds, reaching a total of 49,000 at 10 am.

Young singers
  • among the young singers, Rocco Hunt is the undisputed “leader”, at least in the social media sphere, clearly distancing – with 4,527 tweets, a result comparable with the heavyweights – The Niro, Vadim Valenti and Veronica De Simone (who, however, is number one for positive tweets: 31%)

Presenters
  • the popularity of Luciana Littizzetto is on the rise, compared to the first two evenings, also thanks to her monologue on the subject of beauty; she is, in fact, gradually bridging the gap that separates her from Fabio Fazio, 3,683 tweets compared to the latter’s 5,253

The hot topics of the evening

  • among the guests, the most tweeted about was Renzo Arbore: his performance attracted 48% of all tweets about the guests, with some ironic and funny comments about using a towel as a neckerchief
  • another much tweeted about guest was Damien Rice, with 28% of tweets, ranging from positive comments on the beauty of his songs to sarcastic tweets about his scruffy look, saying that he looked like a busker playing in a tube station
  • the astronaut Luca Parmitano accounted for 9% of all tweets about the guests, especially due to his photographs and to the poem by Keats he recited at the end of his appearance
  • the other hot topics on Twitter were the performance by the Philarmonic Orchestra of Venice (5%), the tribute to Claudio Abbado (4.5%) and the flash mob by Shai Fishman & the Acappella AllStar (3.5%), which positively surprised the social media viewers («I bet they fooled all of you. Momento TOP #sanremo2014»).
