Rome, 19 May 2014 – Rhome for denCity is the only Italian 'green' architectural project among the twenty selected globally to participate in the Solar Decathlon Europe 2014 bio-architecture challenge. Rhome has chosen SEM, Smart Energy Management, the AlmavivA Group's energy-consumption analysis, monitoring and control system, for their prototype that will be entered in the sustainable-housing Olympics, which will take place in Versailles, France, in June.

Rhome for denCity is a project run by architect Chiara Tonelli of the Department of Architecture at the Roma Tre University, with technology provided by AlmavivA – a leading Italian Group in the Information and Communication Technology sector, reaffirming Italy's presence.

The third edition of Solar Decathlon Europe, the competition reserved for universities dedicated to sustainable architecture, will take place in Versailles, France, from 27 June to 14 July 2014. The participating universities, who have designed the twenty prototypes accepted, will create the Solar Village: the buildings will be open to the public for visits during the event and the team responsible for each project will live there to demonstrate its liveability and applicability.

The different buildings will also be tested and given scores for ten different categories (Architecture; Engineering and Construction; Energy Efficiency; Electrical Energy Balance; Comfort Conditions; Housing Function; Communication and Social Awareness; Urban Design, Transportation and Affordability; Innovation; and Sustainability), judged by a panel of international experts.

In order to arrive at the event in Versailles with a winning model in terms of control of the data generated by the prototype house, the Rhome team chose AlmavivA know-how. AlmavivA is highly qualified in the Information and Communication Technology sector and has been present in the Smart Buildings market for years.

AlmavivA supports Rhome with SEM – Smart Energy Management, a platform, also accessible online, which allows consultation of real-time consumption information for building networks on a geographical basis through a single instrument, with identification of unusual trends. This Business Intelligence solution is applied within the measurement database (historic and real time) and acts as a Building Energy Management System dashboard.

It is a single DBMS (Database Management System), therefore, which integrates and correlates energy measurements, environmental data, structural characteristics of the buildings, system data, usage data and production data, as well as supply-contract information.

At the last edition of the Solar Decathlon Europe in 2012, the Italian team – also then the only Italian project selected to participate – called Med in Italy, and also headed by Chiara Tonelli, was voted world sustainability champion, taking third place globally.
