Port Community System for UIRNet S.p.A. integrated with the National Logistics Platform

Rome, 4 June 2015 – AlmavivA, the Italian leader in Information & Communication Technology, is putting together the Port Community System, which will be made available by the end of the year, for UIRNet S.p.A., integrated with the National Logistics Platform.

The Port Community System will be used to increase security, improve cooperation between operators and coordinate port business – a fundamental asset for Italy's technological infrastructure and key for operation of the whole transport and logistics chain.

"The project, says Smeraldo Fiorentini, Deputy General Manager of AlmavivA's Transportation Division, confirms the Group's leadership when it comes to ICT solutions for the transport sector and for intermodal, port and city logistics. AlmavivA's work in the transport sector focuses on developing interoperability between the various logistical nodes and integrating them with the management and control bodies: the Customs Agency, Port Authorities and the National Logistics Platform”.

The project, named "Integrating the National Logistics Platform with the customs-risk-analysis and Port of Taranto node-security systems", foresees the Port Community System being adopted first at the Port of Taranto.

The system involves installing video surveillance and port-access control devices, and providing on-board units (OBU) for the vehicles working in the area, to allow connections to services at the port.

An App will be made available to the various law-enforcement bodies to facilitate management of the port and verify the presence of authorised staff and vehicles.
