AlmavivA Contact on the union ballot

05/05/2016

AlmavivA Contact acknowledges that, in the recently held union ballot, the majority of workers rejected the proposal of implementing a new so-called “solidarity contract”, for the duration provided by the applicable regulations, as a suitable instrument for blocking the redundancy procedure under way and as a useful short-term measure for tackling the serious situation in which the company finds itself.

The union proposal to once again apply this social shock absorber had been welcomed by the Company, at the meeting with the Government representatives and social partners, and included as part of a possible agreement, consistently with the guidelines defined by the Ministry for Economic Development at the meeting held on 20 April last.

"We need to point out that, as part of a possible agreement with the unions, based on the process shared with the Government - said Andrea Antonelli, CEO of Almaviva Contact - we had officially confirmed, undertaking a further significant commitment, that none of the solutions set out for the new solidarity contract would have impaired the salary of the individual workers, compared to the current contract".

Never before has it been so urgent to find effective structural solutions for the industry, with AlmavivA Contact committed to involving all the stakeholders and engaging them on this matter; this is an absolute prerequisite for ensuring sustainable activities and job continuity, on a market based on rules that are clear to all and on a fair competitive environment. In this direction, the Company re-iterates its positive assessment and strong expectations with regard to the recent relaunching of the actions by the Government in this field.

In the wake of the trade union ballot results, AlmavivA Contact points out that, consistently with the legal procedure initiated, the union phase of the process may today be declared closed.
