An accurate selection process – among multinational companies, telecoms operators active in cloud computing and the leading Italian ICT companies – has concluded the tendering process for awarding two lots of the 5-year contract for providing development and management services, in respect of the nationwide Educational Information System.

AlmavivA, as part of a Joint Venture with Fastweb, has won the part of the contract, featuring a starting price of 89 million euros, for providing the management and development services relating to the Educational information service. The other part of the contract – for the application management and development services – was awarded to Hp Enterprise Services.

The technical offer presented by the AlmavivA JV was much appreciated for a number of reasons, the cutting-edge infrastructure solutions, the organization and the innovative project design. The proposal builds on AlmavivA’s longstanding corporate experience in managing its clients’ infrastructure and its innovatory solutions, such as, for example, the Hyperced© system for Ferrovie dello Stato – the registered trademark of the new Railways cloud-computing data center, based on the virtualization of services and resources – and the Tuscany Internet eXchange (TIX) 2.0 – the cloud computing and service virtualization data center – developed for the Regional Government of Tuscany.

The AlmavivA – Fastweb JV will be responsible for managing the central and peripheral technology infrastructure delivering services to the over 50,000 schools, regional schools offices and provincial administrative services centers. It will also provide telematic and email services to the over 800,000 teachers and, via the dedicated portal, to the families of over 7 million students. This infrastructure modernization process aims at improving services all round and developing the biggest switch-off project regarding all families, with cost savings starting in the first year of implementation of the contract.
