The Plenary Meeting of the “SCENE - Smart City on the Edge Network Enhancements” innovation project ends in Rennes

On May 21st and 22nd, the EIT Digital Rennes Pôle Numérique, in the Campus de Beaulieu of the University of Rennes, housed the Plenary Meeting of the European innovation project “SCENE - Smart City on the Edge Network Enhancements” (Call Horizon 2020 - European Innovation Council – Fast Track to Innovation 2018–2020), of which AlmavivA is a partner.

The project has an ambitious aim: creating an innovative Internet of Things platform for mobile edge computing. A series of intelligent gateway devices are installed on vehicles that interact with special sensors scattered throughout the city, in order to collect data which is then sent to the Service Platform and to command specific actions.

Another important objective is to guarantee that SCENE is an open platform, in which third parties (smart city external services) can install their own applications on the gateways, so as to bring data processing directly to the suburbs, close to the sensors.

During the meeting, which was attended by Alessandra Raffone and Sergio Sestili for AlmavivA, the participants shared the activities developed thus far and identified those for the forthcoming months.

AlmavivA participates with an important contribution: the study, design and creation of the Service Platform, namely the control center which controls the entire platform. Some of the most innovative aspects include the use of the GIoTTO® platform as a “Backend as Service” for SCENE, the creation of an analytics system and a control dashboard, besides the definition of the communication protocol with all components of the platform.

Over the two years of the project, test campaigns and pilot projects will be held in Catania, Lisbon and Rennes, with a living lab approach. The first Italian pilot test is scheduled for the end of the year, in collaboration with the municipal transport company (AMT) of Catania, the partner of the project.
