The 4th Plenary Meeting of the European innovation project comes to a close
On Tuesday, April 28th, the 4th Plenary Meeting of the innovative European project "SCENE - Smart City on the Edge Network Enhancements” was held (Call H2020-EIC-FTI-2018-2020, FTI - FAST TRACK TO INNOVATION FTI), of which AlmavivA is a partner.
Because of the current health emergency, the various European partners had to meet online.
The challenge is to fine tune a new IOT platform for Mobile Edge Computing, on which a “vehicular network” of Intelligent Gateways, installed on board vehicles that move around in the cities, collect data as they pass by IoT wireless low-range sensors. The data collected is forwarded to the service centers, the SCENE Service Platform, to create a Data Lake and to create Analytics which are available to the clients.
Furthermore, SCENE is an innovative open platform where third parties, such as Smart City Service Providers, can install their own applications to take processing directly to the vicinity of the sensors deployed based on an Edge computing approach. Last, but not least, it offers a content delivery system.
Another important goal of the project is to enable the use of low cost and low range sensors - an enabling factor for the creation of an ecosystem of new services and startups.
During the meeting, progression of all the operations was discussed - technical, development and integration, commercial, legal, dissemination - as well as ethical aspects and privacy issues. Only the results of the first two Pilot Test campaigns were presented, conducted in Catania and Porto, since the 3rd Pilot, scheduled for the city of Rennes, has been postponed due to the current COVID-19 emergency.
