“We are witnessing a debate about artificial intelligence - how it will transform our lives and how it actually operates when deployed within complex organizations. AI is an extraordinary technology whose true value emerges through concrete applications.
Just a few weeks ago, we released the latest two models in the Velvet family, which have 25 billion parameters and cover 24 languages, including all major European ones, with advanced reasoning capabilities and a focus on data quality and bias management.
These models were trained in Italy by Almawave, a fully Italian-owned company, in compliance with the European regulatory framework. Their value lies primarily in their real-world applications,” said Valeria Sandei, CEO of Almawave, during the panel discussion which took place yesterday at Rome’s La Sapienza University on “AI and Information”, moderated by Riccardo Luna. The panel was part of the meeting series entitled “Disclaimer: Last Warnings Before the Revolution”, promoted by Corriere della Sera in collaboration with CINECA. Also present were, among others, Luciano Fontana, Editor-in-Chief of Corriere della Sera, and Enrico Mentana, Director TG La7.
“People often think that simply increasing the scale of models is enough to improve performance. I believe that, with the models available today, and with the capabilities that are either in place or on the horizon, great things can already be achieved within organizations," added Sandei. "Within a vision of European digital sovereignty, every company should be free to choose which AI model to adopt and whether to opt for one developed in the EU and shaped by an Italian and European cultural foundation.”
“Remarkable results can be achieved over the next three years, because when it comes to use cases, implementing these technologies, and the transformation of sectors, we have a solid foundation and are ready to rise to the challenge,” Sandei concluded.
