AlmavivA chairman Alberto Tripi speaks at ITASEC19

“Without cyber security, we are at risk of losing Italian-made authenticity,” Alberto Tripi stated at the national conference for cyber security in Italy, ITASEC19, in his capacity as Cyber Security Delegate for Confindustria. “The danger is not bitcoin extortion by those targeting companies. The real risk is posed by the assailants entering businesses and extracting their data. Once this information is obtained, a competitor may not only copy a product but, with their knowledge of the supply chain and sales network, do it more competitively.

We, as business owners, have underestimated this risk for many years,” admits Tripi. “Only now are we beginning to realise how exposed business are. A training course for business owners is therefore essential.”

Alberto Tripi called Italy “a country in turmoil. We are at the bottom of the rankings for digitisation, but near the top for hacker attacks. This is all you need to know to see that it is not I.T. that poses a risk, but the lack of it.”

Confindustria is therefore placing “great emphasis on cyber security” and is “confident in its ability to help raise the level of vigilance”. Support is not so crucial for large companies, which “know they are at risk.” However, Tripi concluded, “the 140,000 SMEs with fewer than 100 employees enrolled in Confindustria are especially in need of our assistance.”
