Healthcare: San Giovanni Addolorata Hospital in Rome is leading the way in adopting Almaviva's Helios by Giotto platform to monitor and manage all healthcare data using a data-driven approach. Il Sole 24 Ore reported on this today in an article by Marzio Bartoloni.
One of Rome’s largest hospital complexes has adopted the control room developed by Almaviva to aggregate all patient healthcare data, previously stored in separate and isolated silos. This includes the electronic health record, which will now be automatically updated whenever tests are performed at the hospital, resulting in operational and infrastructural benefits and providing doctors with a holistic view of the patient's medical history.
“Data is the digital fuel that powers the engine of Helios, a platform that sits above the existing management applications (which are not replaced),” explained Andrea Leonardo, Healthcare director at Almaviva. Its defining characteristic is semantic interoperability, which differs from purely technical interoperability as it’s not just about exchanging data, but about understanding its meaning. The platform enables systems to communicate with one another and makes information available to doctors and healthcare professionals."
“One of the clinical areas most impacted is the emergency room, where Helios will reduce waiting times when assessing a patient’s medical history. In emergency situations, where time is the most impactful variable, the platform will enable instant access to a patient’s critical profile, including allergies, previous procedures, and therapies,” said Stefano Lazzari, Director of the ICT and Clinical Engineering Unit at San Giovanni Hospital.
“Helios can also become a key driver of continuity of care in oncology and in the treatment of chronic conditions. Doctors will no longer view only isolated reports, but will be able to monitor the progression of pathologies by correlating data over time. This will allow for more personalized care and for earlier detection of any changes, thus improving the quality of life for the most vulnerable patients.”
