Earth Observation Engineer

Milan/Rome offices/Italy

We are looking for an Earth Observation Engineer whose primary responsibility will be to design algorithms that process satellite data for the production of thematic maps to be used in the field of land monitoring for the practice of data strategy, AI, and location intelligence and, at the same time, to oversee the proper execution of deliverables, proactively cooperating with all corporate stakeholders.

Responsabilities:

• Excellent knowledge of the satellite platforms operating in the earth observation field (Sentinel, Landsat, Cosmo-SkyMed, etc.) and of the operational principles of active and passive optic, infrared, and microwave sensors
• Experience in the implementation and/or management of remote sensing projects in the field of land monitoring
• Keeping abreast of relevant techniques, solutions, and products related to GIS and geographic databases and used for the management and manipulation of satellite and map data and metadata
• Cooperate with corporate delivery structures for the proper implementation of solutions.

Technical skills:

• Substantial professional experience in the design and development of software in the field of remote sensing
• Substantial experience using the Python programming language with particular reference to the GDAL library
• Preference given to those with knowledge of the open source tool SNAP
• Preference given to those with knowledge of other open-source (ex. Java) or market programming (i.e.: Matlab) languages
• experience with Linux/Unix systems and bash scripting;
• Knowledge of open-source GIS products (i.e.: MapStore, Geoserver)
• Knowledge of SQL spatial databases (i.e.: PostGis, Oracle, SqlServer).
