The Global Compact has become the World’s largest corporate sustainability initiative

The Global Compact has become the World’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, after being launched by the UN General Secretary Kofi Annan at the World Economic Forum in Davos, in 1999, with the words: “We initiate a global compact of shared values and principles, which will give a human face to the global market."

Rome, 16 December 2015 – AlmavivA, a leading ICT provider in Italy, has announced its membership of the UN Global Compact Program. Proposed by the former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in 1999, the Global Compact has since become the World’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, with the purpose of promoting a sustainable global economy respectful of human and labor rights, the environment and the fight against corruption.

The Global Compact requires each member corporation or organization to embrace, support and enact, within its sphere of influence, a set of 10 core values in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption, deriving from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the WHO Declaration, the Rio Declaration and the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

AlmavivA has signed the commitment to contribute to a new phase of globalization characterized by sustainability and international cooperation and to build a more inclusive economy, beneficial for individuals, communities and markets. “Assuming a more socially responsible behavior in the protection of human and labor rights, is part of our culture and reflects our corporate values – said Marco Tripi, CEO of AlmavivA Group – and we believe that this can kickstart a " virtuous circle" beneficial for the company, our employees and the broader community to which we belong”.

Constantly focused on its social responsibility, AlmavivA was one of the first Italian ICT companies to receive the Social Accountability System Certificate – SA8000, which commits companies to complying with the values and principles shared with the Global Compact. It has also developed and implemented an Environmental Management System and an Energy Management System conforming to the standards UNI EN ISO 14001 and UNI ISO 50001, for planning and structuring eco-friendly behavior and the efficient use of Information Technology.

Sensitive to the issues of integration and equal opportunities, since September 2015 AlmavivA has granted its employees, without discrimination, special paid leave, as a result of either civil partnership registration or equal marriage celebrated abroad.
