“It’s increasingly important for women to realize the potential that technology offers in all sectors and in all areas of our lives and for them to get involved so as to be a part of it, to shape a future that’s now evident to everyone and will be relevant to our economies and our social context. These were the words of Valeria Sandei, CEO of Almawave, at the 2024 W Leadership Summit in Milan, an event that focuses on female leadership, organized by Class Editori.

Where do you start to break down cultural bias? Is there such a thing as female leadership? Is it still worth talking about gender quotas? These and other questions about women's education and career paths and about female leadership in finance, business, and government were the focus of the event that brought together an exceptional parterre to compare experiences, careers, and opinions across disciplines and to prepare the W Leadership manifesto, to be presented to institutions with 10 proposals for reducing the gender gap in the professional world.

"In all its forms, a variety of perspective is of value," Sandei added. "The challenge for Almawave is to be an active technological player in this transformation and to do so as an Italian company.”

What can be done to interest girls in STEM disciplines? "Encourage a cultural change from the bottom up, starting in primary schools, and make people understand what professional and personal opportunities there are in technological contexts. Those who have an awareness can choose."
